XR Women is upending the “manel” with the
‘Ready for Your Manel’ campaign
XR Women, a global community of women working in the field of XR technologies, is launching a campaign to create awareness of the lack of diversity on conference panels by calling on women to get ready for their manel.

XR Women announces their “Ready for Your Manel” campaign. “Ready for Your Manel” is a social media campaign intended to increase diversity on conference panels.
Women represent 50% of the global population. Women are expected to control $43 trillion of global consumer spending in 2021. There will be 100 million more women in the global labor force by 2030.
However, all-male panels, or “manels,” remain the norm at conferences. XR women aims to end the epidemic of the manel by raising awareness with their “Ready for Your Manel” campaign.
Inspired by the Guerrilla Girls’ (https://www.guerrillagirls.com), who have used subversive humor to diversify the art world since the 1980’s, XR women has created a tongue-in-cheek campaign where women “disguise” themselves as men to gain places on panels.
With the “Ready for Your Manel” campaign XR Women is asking women to:
Take a photo of yourself or your avatar
Draw on your man disguise
Write a short statement about your qualifications
Post on social media
Tag a conference or producer who needs to hear this message
Tag @XRWomenGlobal
Tag 1 or more women working in XR
Use the hashtags - #ReadyForYourManel, #NoMoreManels #XRWomen
